The Old Vicarage
2024

A bit of a bonus this location. As we were pottering around having a break from driving in the Irish countryside we spotted in the distance the top of what looked like a large manor house poking out from between the trees in a thick forest. Intuition kicked in and made us need to investigate what it was. Sometimes you get a feeling something is going to be abandoned by the very nature of the immediate surroundings. Luckily we were right. A long walk down a dusty track, through bushes and trees and we were met with a relic from the past, in serious decay and needing to be photographed. So, in we went.

Inside was exactly what we would have wished for. A vintage house, abandoned for decades yet full of artefacts from the previous occupants along with a good dose of heavy decay to set the photogenic tone.

The house was the former home of the local priest until - I presume - he passed on and no one else wanted to live there from whoever inherited it. Understandable in a way as it really is in an isolated spot. However, it was obviously once a beautiful large estate so you'd imagine someone would like to live in it. That leaves what we found - a parlous relic and how amazing it was.

The ground floor hallway had the most dangerous floor we'd walked on for a while meaning we had to cling to the outside of the wall and hold on to the wall itself as the flor bent and creaked with the merest of footstep and a fall into the cellar wasn't on the agenda. Upstairs floors were also in a very poor state, soaked with rain and damp and looking like they'd give way at any point.

After three hours we finished our work and left. Sometimes you hit the jackpot purely by chance.
