Ottoman Mansion,Trikala
2014
Standing on its own, surrounded by land, this mansion stands out with such historical grace and splendour.
This particular mansion was built during the Ottaman Empire around the 1700's and lived in by the then Ottaman ruler of this region of Northern Greece. In the cellar the chains are still in situ on the walls from practices of imprisonment & torture. A reminder of this great Country's sad history.
The building was supposed to 'saved' by the local council and evidence of work can be seen on the roof, yet years have passed and it is doubtful any more work will be done to save it from the inevitable clutches of nature once the winter rains wash through it.
Grand rooms, vibrant colours. reminders of former glories as well as former anxieties.
